Eastman Dedicates 2013 Freedom Award in Honor of Veteran’s Day

November 11, 2013 - USA

KINGSPORT, Tenn., Nov. 11, 2013 – Eastman Chemical Company and Chairman and CEO Jim Rogers today held a dedication ceremony in celebration of the company’s recent honor as a recipient of the 2013 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The event also served to recognize the many men and women who have served in the military in honor of Veteran’s Day.
“There is a special place in my heart for those who serve in our military,” said Rogers. “I could not imagine a better way to honor our veterans and active service employees than to dedicate this award on Veteran’s Day.”
The Freedom Award is the U.S. Department of Defense’s highest recognition given to fifteen employers for exceptional support of employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve. They have distinguished themselves from a field of nearly 2,900 nominations submitted by Reserve Component Service members. These employers have gone above and beyond their legal obligations to military employees, offering formal and informal initiatives that ensure service members and their families are taken care of throughout all types of military service.
“Eastman has a long-standing history of being a military friendly employer,” said Rogers. “How we treat our veterans speaks to who we are as a company, and this recognition is a tremendous affirmation of the culture at Eastman, and something every one of us can take pride in.”
Eastman received the award at the 18th annual Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award ceremony on September 26 in Washington, D.C.  The award will be on display at Eastman’s military honor wall, located in the Toy F. Reid Employee Center on Wilcox Drive.
